The G1 X is Canon's first compact camera to feature a large, 4:3 aspect, 14.3-megapixel CMOS sensor measuring 18.7mm x 14mm — similar in height to the APS-C sensors used in EOS DSLR models (for comparison, most compact cameras have sensors around 2/3 inch).
The internal zoom lens can take pictures with a f/2.8-f/5.8 aperture and a zoom range of 28-112mm.
This camera also uses Canon's new Digit 5 processors and has an ISO range from 100 to 12,800.
Video-wise, the G1 X can shoot 1080p and has been improved with Canon's new hybrid IS technology.
Images can be viewed on a 3-inch vari-angle LCD screen.
The G1 X can be purchased $799.
