Canon has finally released it's highly anticipated EOD 5D Mark III SLR camera.

Most notably, this full-frame model has been supercharged with vastly improved focusing capabilities. The Mark II, which was first released four years ago, had only nine focal points. The Mark III has a 61-point autofocusing system with 41 cross-type sensors.

While the focusing system matches that of the higher-end 1D, the 5D has about half the ability for high-speed continuous shooting (6 fps) and half the range for light sensitivity (50 to 102,400 ISO).

The 5D has a 22.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, just over 4 megapixels more than the 1D.

The 5D line, which has become increasingly popular for videography, focused on improving audio features with the Mark III, which is equipped with a built-in headphone jack and in-body audio level control.

Other notable features include the multiple exposure mode, which is also pulled from the 1D X; HDR mode; and a 3.2-inch LCD screen.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR sells in a body-only configuration at an estimated retail price of $3,499 or with a EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens for $4,299.
