Nikon’s D3100, a 14.2-megapixel DSLR, has been unveiled with an enhanced user guide mode, 1080p HD video and full-time autofocus.

The enhanced guide mode provides users with a message on the LCD screen that gives users suggested camera setting adjustments. Other improvements include full HD shooting capabilities, scene- and face-detection technology, and a quiet shutter release mode. This is also the first of Nikon’s D-line to offer full-time autofocus in live view and D-movie mode.

The camera uses the active D-lighting system, which automatically rescues dark or backlit images to help create even tones. The D3100 is equipped with a 3-inch LCD screen, an 11-point autofocus system and expandable 12800 ISO capabilities.

The D3100 DSLR, including the versatile AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR image stabilization lens, has an estimated selling price of $699.
