Nikon has added the new 10.2-megapixel D60 to its D-series line of digital SLRs. Similar in shape and size to Nikon's D40, the D60 comes packaged with an AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR image stabilization lens.

The D60 comes equipped with Nikon's 3-D Color Matrix Metering II, which automatically exposes images in challenging lighting conditions, and also with EXPEED, a new image-processing concept that smooths out tone and color. An Active D-lighting feature also helps accent shadow and details without photo-editing software.

Other in-camera editing features include star effects and filters, size trim, file format and white balance. A Stop-Motion Movie mode allows for as many as 100 consecutive JPEG shots. The 2.5-inch color LCD screen automatically turns on and off to conserve power when the user switches between taking pictures and viewing images.

The Nikon D60 supports SD and SDHC cards as well as Eye-Fi memory cards, which allow wireless transfer capabilities. The D60 with the Nikkor 18-55mm lens has an estimated retail price of $749.
