Fujifilm has announced its first digital camera to offer full high-definition compatibility, the 10-megapixel FinePix S2000HD. It features a 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor, a 15x wide-angle optical zoom (27.6mm–414mm equivalent) and a 2.7-inch wide-view LCD.

The S2000HD films in HD quality (1,280x720 pixels) in a wide-screen 16:9 aspect ratio and converts still images and movies in-camera into an HDTV signal output. By keeping images in 16:9, the camera avoids the distortion of 4:3 aspect ratio images from standard digital camera on a wide screen.

Dual-image and picture stabilization technology allow for ISO levels up to ISO 1600 at full resolution or ISO 6400 at 5 megapixels. The new FinePix camera also features Face Detection with Automatic Red-Eye Removal for up to 10 subjects, manual controls of resolution, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and continuous shooting of up to 6.8 fps (at 5 megapixels) or 13.5 fps (at 3 megapixels) for 33 continuous frames.

A one-touch Instant Zoom feature digitally adds 1.4x or 2x magnification and can also convert from landscape to portrait without having to turn the camera. Other features include three-shot zoom bracketing in standard mode, 1.4x and 2x zoom, 13 scene modes and 11 shooting modes.

The S2000HD is available with Fujifilm's optional HD Accessory Kit and uses SD and SDHC media cards. The camera retails for $299.
