John Keatley's website was recently selected as one of the top photography websites in the Photo District News American Photography Competition for the second year in a row.

The Portland Art Museum (PAM) has hired Julia Dolan as its photography curator. Most recently, she was the Horace W. Goldsmith Curatorial Fellow in Photography at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

This will be Dolan's first position as a museum curator, but she has held a variety of positions at museums such as the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Mass., and the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.

The International Color Awards Photography Masters Cup has awarded Seattle photographer Kristen Gill the 4th Annual Photography Masters Cup Nominee title in the portrait category.

The winners of the first Epson International Pano Awards were recently announced. The overall winner was Bill Leigh Brewer of Los Angeles, who also placed first in the "Built Environment" category for his image "Speed of Light," which depicted a moving train speeding through the desert.

Hal Fischer, an independent consultant in the nonprofit sector since 1984, has been appointed interim director of the SF Camerawork Gallery.

Fischer has worked with organizations such as San Diego's Timken Museum of Art and San Francisco's Asian Art Museum and For-Site Foundation. He is also a recipient of National Endowment for the Arts fellowships in art criticism and photography.

Fischer will fill this position while SF Camerawork conducts a nationwide search for the gallery's next executive director through the end of the year.

Louie Psihoyos of Boulder, Colo., won a 2010 Academy Award for Best Documentary for "The Cove," a film about efforts to save thousands of dolphins from being brutally slaughtered every year in Taiji, Japan. The film also spotlighted the region's practice of serving dolphin meat tainted with mercury to schoolchildren.

In April, the Frans Lanting Studio included three of Frans Lanting's images in the gala international Green Auction by Christie's auction house in New York City.

The auction, held on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, donated proceeds to conservation organizations, including Conservation International, Oceana and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Photographer Jim Marshall, the man who famously captured Jimi Hendrix as he set his guitar on fire at a live concert, passed away in March at the age of 74.

Seattle photographer Art Wolfe has won five Silver Telly Awards recognizing outstanding achievement in video and film production for local, regional and cable television.
