Blue Earth Alliance Names Five Photographers for Project Sponsorships
Among the many photographers whose projects are being sponsored by the Blue Earth Alliance this year is Subhankar Banerjee, who is currently working in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Banarjee, a freelance photographer specializing in wildlife, environmental and cultural photography, will document the year-round biodiversity of the refuge and its two indigenous cultures, the Gwichi’in Athabascan Indians and the Inupiat Eskimos. The project is designed to create a conservation book in collaboration with natural history and cultural writers.

Mark Brodie and Mark Waldron, a team of photographers who call themselves the Digital Dawgs, have hired Jarrod Weaton, a veteran of the commercial photography and the print community in San Francisco and Los Angeles, to help with marketing and new business development.

David Giles has joined Menuez Pictures, based in Sausalito, Calif., as production head. Most recently, Giles was senior art director at Campbell Ewald in Detroit, where he won a Telly Award for Chevrolet’s 2000 Olympics spot. Prior to that, he was at Grey Advertising Worldwide in New York. Currently known for print advertising campaigns, Menuez Pictures hopes to expand into film with Giles on board.

Steve Smith First British Columbian to Receive Recognition from NWEEP
Steven Smith, an event, editorial, catalogue and fine-art photographer from Vancouver, was awarded an honorable mention in the 2002 Northwest Exhibition of Environmental Photography for his photo entitled “Polar Bear Exhibit.” He is the first British Columbian to be honored by the annual juried competition.
