Jane S. Kinne, a commercial stock photography pioneer, died Nov. 3, 2007, as a result of complications following surgery. She was 82.
Kinne committed her time to several organizations, including the Picture Archive Council of America (PACA), the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) and the American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP). She worked in the 1970s to bring professional regard to the photo industry.
She also served as president of Photo Researchers Inc. and vice president of Comstock. She received lifetime achievement awards from NANPA and PACA, and in 2003 became the first ASPP Picture Professional of the Year.
Recently, Kinne had been serving as chairperson for ASPP and PACA and as director of development for the NANPA Foundation.
Though she "retired" from Comstock in the early 1990s, she worked on hundreds of legal cases over the ensuing years, testifying as an expert witness on issues relating to the business of photography.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the NANPA Foundation at nanpafoundation.org/donations.html.
