Fujifilm has released two bridge cameras this year with the FinePix SL300 and SL240. Like the EXR models, the SL300 and SL240 offer 30x and 24x optical zoom, respectively, although they both have a lower, 14-megapixel resolution sensor...

NEX-5N: Sony’s Skinniest, Fastest Interchangeable-Lens Camera

29 October 2011
Published in : Digital Cameras

Slimmed down to just 23.3 millimeters at its thinnest point, Sony’s α NEX-5N interchangeable-lens camera (ILC) may look odd with a giant lens strapped on its front, but it’s not meager in its speed or power.

Housed in a rugged, light magnesium alloy body, the 5N has an intuitive touch-screen interface and a shutter release time lag of approximately 20 milliseconds, the quickest ILC camera to date.

The camera’s Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor has 16.1-megapixel resolution and...

Olympus Releases Flagship PEN E-P3, E-PL3 Models

Published in : Digital Cameras

Touting itself as the micro four-thirds camera with the fastest autofocus on the market today, Olympus’ new PEN E-P3 features a bright, 614,000-pixel, high-resolution OLED touch screen. In addition, Olympus released the PEN E-PL3, which is essentially a shrunken version of the E-P3: a more portable point-and-shoot — yet flexible — interchangeable lens camera with a swivel LCD screen.

The E-P3 is outfitted with a FAST (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) autofocus tracking system and 35 focus points, and a 60-millisecond shutter response time. Selectable 3x3 focal groups within the 35-point area can also be set when shooting active subjects...

Although traditionally a consumer-level camera, Sony’s NEX line of cameras has recently been outfitted with interchangeable lenses, giving it a step up in the compact camera empire.

The α NEX-7 camera has a 24.3-megapixel resolution Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor (just like Sony’s SLR alpha line), an ISO range of 100-16000 and full HD 60p video capture.

Also as with traditional SLRs, Sony has focused on reducing shutter lag time with the NEX-7...

Published in : Digital Cameras

Leica has added subtle changes to its redesigned M9-P rangefinder to make it more durable as well as stylish.

This latest rangefinder digital camera is still the smallest full-frame model on the market to date. Mechanically speaking, the M9-P is identical to its predecessor.

In terms of packaging, Leica has made a few changes with the M9-P. For starters, the red Leica brand has been removed from the casing and replaced with an engraved logo on the top of the camera. For added stealth, this model can be purchased in all-black as well as in the traditional black-and-chrome configuration...

With the update, H4D-60 users will be able to do a one-click focus check by zooming in to 100 percent to check focus position and accuracy. The new bidirectional (pitch and roll) digital spirit level puts an end to skewed horizons and off-angle straight edges.

With the firmware update, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance and...
