Ricoh has created the GXR interchangeable unit, a small, lightweight SLR camera. Unlike other mirrorless cameras, the GXR combines the lens, image sensor and processing engines into a single, detachable unit.
Packaging the lens allows each unit to be fitted with its own sensor size and processing capabilities, essentially rendering a new camera with every lens. With the GXR, the body simply houses the controls, screen and card slots. Only 4.5 by 2.75 by 1.1 inches in size and less than 6 ounces in weight, the GXR is one of the smallest interchangeable lens cameras on the market.
Most shooting settings can be accessed on one screen by pressing the Direct button. Users can also access manual settings in program shift mode, shutter priority mode and aperture priority mode and can shoot in low-light settings up to ISO 3200.
The estimated price of the body and lens is $990.
