Samsung has released the GX-20, its next generation DSLR, capable of capturing images at a 14.6-megapixel resolution. The camera improves on the qualities of the GX-10 with a Samsung CMOS sensor that can create 14-bit RAW images and maintain low noise levels at an ISO setting of 6400.

The GX-20 is designed for advanced-amateur to professional-level photographers and incorporates improved sensor-based shake reduction, plus a double dust-removal system. A specially designed body has been fortified with special seals and silicone to protect against damage from water, dirt and other elements.

The camera also features a 2.7-inch Live View LCD screen, which allows users to check composition and focus directly on the LCD in real time, as well as a Pentaprism viewfinder that yields a 95 percent wide field and a maximum shutter speed of 1/4,000 second.

Shooters can also take advantage of the GX-20's 11-point TTL, wide-area autofocus system and a choice of AF single or AF-continuous shooting. The GX-20 also features a TTL open-aperture 16-segment metering system for accurate exposures, as well as center weighted spot metering.

The optical picture stabilization shake-reduction system works with a wide range of lenses, including Samsung's Schneider D-Xenon family and the full range of Pentax KAF2, KAF and KA mount lenses. The Schneider D-Xenon lenses available consist of a 10-17mm, f/3.5-4.5 fish-eye zoom; a 12-24mm, f/4 ultra-wide zoom; a 16-45mm, f/4 wide zoom; a 35mm, f/2 fixed-focus; and a 100mm, f/2.8 macro lens.

The GX-20 is Samsung's fourth digital SLR and the flagship of the GX family. The suggested retail price is $1,399.
