Jeff Wall Receives Hasselblad International Award

Canadian photographer Jeff Wall of Vancouver, B.C., was selected as the winner of the 2002 Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography. In conjunction with the award, presented late last year in Göteborg, Sweden, Wall’s photographs were displayed for two months at the Hasselblad Center in the Göteborg Art Gallery.

Judy Horn Receives Washington State Fair Photo Honors

Works by Judy Horn, of Horn Graphics (hornfineartimaging.com) in Tacoma, Wash., received the Best of Category award (for the Spirit of America category) and the Director’s Purchase Award at the Western Washington State Fair’s fine-art competition. Robert Glenn Ketchum Receives Aperture Lifetime Achievement Award

Earlier this year, Aperture Foundation bestowed its Lifetime Achievement Award in Photography and Conservation upon Robert Glenn Ketchum (robertglennketchum.com). The award was presented during Aperture’s 50th anniversary gala at Sotheby’s New York. At the same ceremony, Henri Cartier-Bresson received the Aperture/Michael E. Hoffman Award.

Judith Cooper Haden (judithhadenphotography.com) of Seattle recently completed a 13-city book-signing and lecture tour to promote her new book, “Oaxaca: The Spirit of Mexico,” released in June 2002 by Artisan. The cities she visited were Tucson, Ariz.; Phoenix; Santa Fe, N.M.; Albuquerque, N.M.; San Francisco; Los Angeles; San Diego; Nevada City, Nev.; Bellingham, Wash.; Bainbridge Island, Wash.; Kirkland, Wash.; Seattle; and Oaxaca, Mexico.

Oliver Gagliani, 1917-2002

Oliver Gagliani, a resident of South San Francisco, died Nov. 20, 2002, at the age of 85. At the time of his death, Gagliani was gathering his images of Italy for publication in book form.

He was a respected instructor and former NEA grant recipient whose work had appeared in one-person exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, at the Santa Barbara Museum and the Oakland Museum in California, and in galleries around the world.

Los Angeles photographer Robert Glenn Ketchum is traveling in Germany this autumn and will be the featured speaker at the Internationales Naturfoto-Festival 2002 in Lunen, Germany, on Oct. 6. In addition, an exhibition of Ketchum’s work, “Changing Perspective,” will be held at the festival from Oct. 4 through Nov. 16, at Lunen’s Hilpert Theater.

In July, Wolfgang Kaehler of Bellevue, Wash., traveled to Iceland to photograph the country’s landscapes and wildlife. After his return, he spent time on the East Coast documenting historic and scenic views. In October, he will do an extensive cruise through the South Pacific visiting Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, the Cook Islands and French Polynesia, followed by a journey to France, Spain, Tunisia, Sicily, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Malta in November.

Lance Rossing, who formed TeamPhotogenic.com with Seattle-based Duell Fisher and Kirk Swink, has created an online photo purchasing service and gallery called YourPhotoZ.com. The new system will allow friends and family to e-mail photos from events covered by Team Photogenic Services. Those who receive the photos via e-mail can also purchase them.
