Geoffrey Hiller Produces Multimedia Campaign to Build Awareness About Brazil

Geoffrey Hiller, a photographer based in Portland, Ore., has produced "Canto do Brasil," a multimedia presentation designed to build awareness of the country's current situation.

Through photography, narration, music and sounds from the streets of Brazil, viewers move through a visual depiction of four Brazilian cities: Salvador de Bahia, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

Doug Walker Wins Three Top Awards at PPW Annual Conference

Commercial photographer Doug Walker, of Walker Photography in Olympia, Wash., won three top awards at the Professional Photographers of Washington Annual Educational Conference and Print Competition.

Walker received the Best Architectural and the Best Industrial print awards, as well as the C.C. Yang Trophy for highest total combined score from four entries.



Oscar Williams Wins Grand Prize in Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest

Oscar Williams, a photographer and teacher who lives in Kirkland, Wash., recently won the grand prize in Smithsonian magazine's first photography contest. Williams' winning photograph is of a boy running up a tiled staircase in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.



Lucie Awards Announces First-Ever Recipients of Photography Honors

The International Photography Awards recently announced the recipients of the first-ever Lucie Awards, acknowledging photographers' achievements from around the world in various categories.

Chris Frazer-Smith of the U.K. received honors as IPA's Photographer of the Year, which includes a $10,000 prize. Phil Borges won the Lucie Humanitarian Award and Robert Evans took home the Visionary Award. Henri Cartier-Bresson also was given an award for Lifetime Achievement in Photography.

Kevin Schafer Wins Grand Prize in Nature's Best International Photography Awards

Kevin Schafer, a photographer based in Seattle, won the Grand Prize in the 2003 Nature's Best International Photography Awards. His photograph, "Teepee and Aurora Borealis, Northwest Territories, New Year's Eve 2002/3," was included in the Nature's Best exhibit at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History last October.
