Daniel Beltra Receives Global Vision Award and Other Honors

Seattle photographer and Greenpeace freelancer Daniel Beltra recently received Pictures of the Year International's Global Vision Award, plus an Award of Excellence in the Nature Series category for his Greenpeace project, "Rainforest and the Antarctic," which documents the impact of global warming on the biodiverse polar region.

Danita Delimont Named as 2008 NANPA Fellow

Danita Delimont, principal of Danita Delimont Stock Agency, has been named a 2008 Fellow by the North American Nature Photographers Association (NANPA), recognizing her 28 years of service to the nature photography industry. The award was made at NANPA's 14th Annual Summit earlier this year.

U.N.'s IPC Announces Professional Photographer Leadership Award Winners

The International Photographic Council (IPC), a nongovernmental organization of the United Nations, has announced the recipients of its 10th annual IPC Professional Photographer Leadership Awards.

Honorees include Judy Herrmann, immediate past president of the American Society of Media Photographers; George Fulton, of Advertising Photographers of America; Ann Monteith, with Professional Photographers of America; George Davis, with Professional School Photographers Association International; and Marty LaVor, of the White House News Photographers Association.



James Balog named NANPA's Outstanding Photographer of the Year

James Balog, of Boulder, Colo., has been named the 2008 Outstanding Photographer of the Year by the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA).

The organization will honor Balog for two decades of groundbreaking nature photography. NANPA will present the award at its 14th Annual Summit on March 1, 2008, in Destin, Fla., which will feature a presentation from Balog about his "Extreme Ice Survey" project.

Phil Borges Named Finalist for Purpose Prize

Phil Borges, of Mercer Island, Wash., was one of 15 finalists nominated for the second annual Purpose Prize, sponsored by the Seattle-based Civic Ventures. He was recognized for his work with socially relevant photography and for his nonprofit project, Bridges to Understanding.

The finalists, which were required to be 60 years of age or older, were selected for their influence on issues of social importance. Five of them received $100,000 and the remaining 10 received $10,000, Borges being one of the latter group.



Fogdens and Littlehales Receive NANPA Lifetime Achievement Awards

Michael and Patricia Fogden, of North Uist, Scotland, will receive 2008 Lifetime Achievement Awards from NANPA, recognizing their work with natural history subjects. Bates Littlehales, of Circleville, Wis., a retired photographer who specialized in natural history photography and underwater work for the National Geographic Society, will be honored with the second 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Joan Dooley Receives Patron Saint Award for Teaching

This year's winner of the Patron Saint Award is Joan Dooley, a photography teacher at Bell High School Humanitas Academy in Los Angeles. The teaching award recognizes a high school, college or postgraduate-level educator for their passion for teaching photography.
