Herbert Keppler Receives IPC's Hall of Fame Award

At the International Photographic Council's New Year's luncheon, held at the United Nations, Herbert Keppler received the council's Hall of Fame Award. Keppler, vice president of Popular Photography & Imaging and American Photo magazines, was honored for his efforts to support the advancement of photography.



Anita Duncan Named ASPP's Picture Professional of the Year

Anita Duncan has been honored by the American Society of Picture Professionals as the group's third annual Picture Professional of the Year. Duncan, whose career has encompassed publishing and book design, including a stint as production manager at Marvel Comics, now works at Photo Researchers. Currently she is working on a picture book about the Murray Hill neighborhood in New York City.



IPC Honors Five Professional Photographer Leadership Award Winners

The International Photographic Council, a nongovernmental organization of the United Nations, recognized the recipients of its 7th Annual Professional Photographer Leadership Awards at its International Professional Photographers Month luncheon at the U.N. in New York City on May 11.

Patricio Robles Gil Named 2006 NANPA Outstanding Photographer of the Year; Pat O'Hara and Les Line also Honored

Patricio Robles Gil has been named 2006 Outstanding Photographer of the Year by the North American Nature Photography Association. Gil is known for his passion for conservation and the use of photography in protection efforts in his home country of Mexico. The award will be presented at NANPA's 12th Annual Summit, to be held Feb. 9-12, 2006, in Denver.

Karen Huntt and Michele Westmorland Receive Awards for Mytinger Project Documentary

Karen Huntt and Michele Westmorland, of the Mytinger Project, have received Scott Pearlman Field Awards for Science and Exploration from the Explorers Club. Pearlman awards are given to professionals in media and the arts to support documentation of exploration and field research.

Westmorland also has been invited to speak at the 8th World Wilderness Congress, to be held in Anchorage, Alaska, this October. She will give her presentation, "On the Trail of Headhunters," during the Conservation Photography...



Deanne Fitzmaurice Awarded 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography

San Francisco Chronicle photographer Deanne Fitzmaurice has been awarded the 2005 Pulitzer Prize in feature photography for her photo essay portraying doctors' efforts to heal a maimed 9-year-old Iraqi boy.

Fitzmaurice earned a BFA in photography from the San Francisco Academy of Art's University Academy, where she became a guest lecturer after her graduation. Her prize-winning photographs can be viewed at pulitzer.org.



Larry Levin Named ASPP Picture Professional of the Year

Larry Levin (lllevin.com) has been named the Picture Professional of the Year by the American Society of Picture Professionals. The second annual award was presented to Levin at Picturehouse in New York City on Oct. 20, 2004. The award recognizes significant contributions to photography, a single outstanding achievement and longtime service to the association or its members.

A former national president of ASPP, Levin has been involved in the photographic profession his entire life. In the 1990s, he was a major force in organizing the National Press Photographers Association’s Flying Short course around the country.

 



Art Wolfe's 'Edge of the Earth - Corner of the Sky' Garners Publishing Accolades

Seattle’s Wildlands Press, a publishing arm of Art Wolfe, Inc., has been recognized for Wolfe’s most recent book, Edge of the Earth — Corner of the Sky. The book was honored with the Publishers Marketing Association’s Benjamin Franklin Award in the Arts category, and also garnered an IPPY Award in the Coffee Table Book category, presented by Independent Publisher magazine.
