Canon has announced four new digital cameras in its PowerShot line: the G10, SX10 IS, SD990 IS and SD880 IS.
The PowerShot G10 leads the line with a 14.7-megapixel sensor, the new DIGIC 4 image processor, a 28 mm wide-angle optical image stabilized (OIS) lens, RAW mode, a 5x optical zoom and a 3.0-inch Pure Color LCD II screen.
The G10 features many controls, including the Exposure Compensation Dial to allow quick adjustment and the My Menu function, which preprograms five options from the shooting menu as well as 26 shooting modes. Also, the Custom Mode better allows users to record two types of shooting parameter settings.
The DIGIC 4 image processor's Servo AF feature is a form of continuous-focus tracking for moving subjects resulting in sharper images. Additionally, the processor reduces ISO speed noise and helps promote the Intelligent Contrast Correction and Face Detection.
The PowerShot SX10 IS digital camera features a wide-angle (28–560mm) 20x optical zoom lens, an OIS lens and a DIGIC 4 image processor; it is capable of capturing long-range shots and a quick zoom. Images are captured at a 10-megapixel resolution. Other features include Face Detection Technology, a 2.5-inch LCD screen and MovieSnap mode for capturing still images while shooting video.
The SX10 IS also offers the ability to shoot VGA movies up to one hour or 4GB per clip, all while utilizing the new Voice Coil Motor, which enables faster focusing speed while reducing focusing noise.
The PowerShot SD990 IS Digital Elph camera features 14.7-megapixel resolution, a 3.7x Optical Zoom with OIS and the new Quick Shot Mode for even faster shutter speed. The PowerShot SD880 IS Digital Elph features 10-megapixel resolution and 4x wide-angle Optical Zoom with OIS. Both the SD990 and SD880 feature the new DIGIC 4 image processor.
The PowerShot G10 has an estimated selling price of $499; the SX10 IS digital camera will be available in late October for about $399; and the SD990 IS and SD880 IS Digital Elph cameras will sell for about $399 and $299, respectively.
