Canon has expanded its camcorder line with two new models, the 4.3-megapixel Canon Optura 600 and the 2.2-megapixel Optura S1.

The Optura 600 combines a camcorder with a 4.3-megapixel digital camera. Simultaneous photo recording allows users to capture still images while shooting video. The CCD works alongside an RGB primary color filter for crisp images that can be printed up to 8.5 by 11 inches.

For accurate exposure, the model lets the user choose the metering and scene mode, or select auto exposure bracketing. The camcorder also incorporates nine-point Auto Intelligent Auto Focus, a 10x optical zoom lens, 200x digital zoom, a Digic DV image processor and Print & Share capabilities.

The compact Optura S1 features fewer buttons and a new Easy Menu System, and records widescreen video so that consumers can watch their home movies in the same widescreen format as on new TVs. Built-in image stabilization allows steady video recording, and a built-in video light lets users continue to record in dim lighting.

The camcorder also has a 10x optical zoom lens/200x digital zoom, a 2.2-megapixel CCD image sensor with RGB primary color filter, a Digic DV image processor and Print & Share capabilities. As with the Optura 600, users can select metering and scene modes, or shoot with auto exposure bracketing. Other features include nine-point Auto Intelligent Auto Focus, Continuous Shooting Mode, Image Effects and Photo Review.

Both the Canon Optura 600 and Canon Optura S1 are compatible with Windows XP and Mac OS X and above. The Canon 600 Mini DV camcorder is priced at $1,099, while the S1 Mini DV camcorder is $799.
