Ray Pfortner Named Director of Education at Seattle's PCNW

Ray Pfortner has been selected as the new director of education for Seattle's Photographic Center Northwest (PCNW). He is responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of PCNW's fine-art curriculum and faculty concerns.

A previous faculty member himself, the 30-year veteran has been a photography instructor since 2001 and serves as a consultant to photographers on business practices and book publishing.

Go Click! Contest Winners Announced

Winners of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department's (OPRD) 2007 GO Click! photo contest have been announced. In all, 12 entrants were selected from more than 1,700 photo submissions.

Michelle Bates Publishes New Book on Using Holga Cameras

Michelle Bates, a photographer living in Seattle, has chronicled her experiences working with and teaching about Holga cameras in her new book, "Plastic Cameras: Toying with Creativity," published by Focal Press.

Her work and the book were featured in an article on www.imaginginfo.com. Bates also presented an exhibition and lecture at the Creative Center for Photography in Los Angeles in February.



David Cobb and Jonathan Ley Embark on 350-Mile Icelandic Photo Hike

This summer, photographers David M. Cobb and Jonathan Ley, both based in Portland, Ore., will embark on a 350-mile hike across Iceland. The two plan to traverse the country's volcanic core, beginning in Hraunhafnartangi, capturing images of caribou, Arctic foxes and the abundant birdlife along the Icelandic coast.
