Tamron has introduced a new high-power lens with the world’s first 13.9x zoom. The AF18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro, with its compact and lightweight design, made exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C sized imager sensors. The new lens has a telephoto effect that is obtainable with its 250mm focal-length feature.
The new lens allows for enhanced image quality with its expanded focal-length range of 18mm to 250mm. Its lightweight design is based on the popular AF18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro model. With a telephoto effect that is entirely different from the effect obtainable at 200mm on conventional high-power lenses, the new lens is designed for photographers who are currently using the AF28-300mm Di.
Despite a zoom power ratio of 13.9x, the lens remains compact: a mere 0.2mm more in its maximum diameter and 0.6mm in overall length. The lens offers a 388mm ultra-telephoto focal length when converted to the 35mm film format. The advanced optical design of the lens was developed to achieve compactness, high power and optimum power distribution.
In the past, wide-angle ultra-telephoto film photography required a combination of two zoom lenses, a 28-200mm and a 200-400mm. Now it takes just one.
The AF18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro lens is priced at $499.
