Replacing the 50D, Canon’s EOS 60D SLR has hit the market with full HD video recording and advanced in-camera raw processing.
HD video now has more manual features, such as audio level override (although audio cannot be adjusted once filming has begun), in-camera processing and filters. Video is shot at 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution, with selectable frame rates of 24p, 25p or 30p. Movie crop mode allows the users to zoom up to 7x magnification and crop images directly without losing image quality as with traditional zoom controls.
Raw image processing can now be done in-camera and includes several enhanced features, such as peripheral illumination correction, high-ISO noise reduction and linear distortion correction. Images can also be resized in-camera and can be optimized for online or on-screen viewing.
A 3-inch vari-angle LCD view screen comes with anti-reflective and smudge-resistant coatings for bright, clear viewing from any angle. This model also features a multi-control dial for quicker setting manipulation and thumbnail viewing.
Canon has adapted the PowerShot creative filter system to the 60D, allowing users to add effects, including soft focus, black-and-white, “toy camera” and tilt-shift, to any image.
With 18-megapixel resolution, the 60D DSLR camera has iFCL intelligent metering controls and 5.3-frame-per-second shooting, and uses a 9-point autofocus system.
The Canon EOS 60D Digital SLR camera is sold in a body-only configuration at an estimated retail price of $1,099, or in a kit version with Canon’s EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens at an estimated retail price of $1,399.
