Canon has introduced the EOS Rebel XS, a new digital SLR that includes an optical-image-stabilized lens and easy-to-use professional features. Weighing less than a pound, the Rebel XS is the lightest body in the EOS digital series.
The Rebel XS incorporates an APS-C size (22.2x14.8 mm) CMOS sensor enabling 10.1 million-pixel images and Canon's DIGIC III image processor to deliver imaging performance and responsiveness. The EOS Integrated Cleaning System features both hardware and software-based dust removal.
The Live View function allows users to frame and shoot images in real time via the camera's 2.5-inch LCD screen, and an Auto Lighting Optimizer detects dark areas of an image and automatically adjusts brightness and contrast to ensure optimal image results. Large control buttons and easy-to-see operating panel indications, such as ISO settings visible through the viewfinder, allow greater ease of use.
The camera also features a three-frame-per-second continuous JPEG burst rate, limited only by the capacity of the camera's flash memory. The continuous JPEG burst rate allows users to shoot a scene until the memory card is at capacity, which is ideal for capturing a moving subject.
The Canon Rebel XS comes with a zoom lens kit, with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens, a rechargeable battery pack and charger, and other accessories for an estimated retail price of $699.
